1348 by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, it is the oldest university in Central Europe and one of the oldest in the world. The university comprises 17 faculties across Prague and other cities (such as Hradec Králové and Plzeň), offering a wide range of academic programs in fields including medicine, science, law, humanities, economics, education, mathematics, and more. Many undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs are available, with several offered in English for international students. Charles University places strong emphasis on research, innovation, and international cooperation, collaborating with nearly 200 partner universities worldwide. It attracts students from many countries and offers a culturally diverse academic environment. The university does not have a single central campus; instead, its facilities and historic buildings (such as the Karolinum in Prague’s Old Town) are distributed throughout the city and include modern research and study spaces.
