Louisiana State University is a public, coeducational institution located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and serves as the flagship university of the Louisiana State University System. In 2015, the university enrolled more than 26,000 undergraduate students and over 5,000 graduate students across 14 schools and colleges. Several of LSU’s graduate programs, including the E.J. Ourso College of Business and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, have earned national recognition within their respective academic fields. As a designated land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution, LSU is also distinguished by its extensive research infrastructure, overseeing approximately 800 sponsored research projects supported by organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Although the Olmsted firm initially envisioned a Spanish or Mexican architectural style for the university, LSU offers a wide range of appealing activities for students. These include walking around the campus lakes, attending performances at one of the many theaters, or visiting the galleries and museums located on campus. In addition, movie nights, guest lectures, concerts, and various events are held throughout the year, ensuring that students can always find activities to enjoy regardless of the season.
